Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan confronts Gollum, the creature ruined by the One Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and Peter Jackson's adaptation, with the vocabulary of urban graffiti. The hyperreal portrait emerges from an absolute black background, bare shoulders and a repulsed gaze, while its skin becomes a wall of weathered terrain covered in tags. “MY PRECIOUS”, “SMEAGOL”, “BAGGINS”, “THE MT DOOM”, “ONE RING”: the words that haunt the character are literally written on the body.
The treatment plays on two registers that clash. The face is of a polished painterly quality, almost production concept art: subtle modeling of grey and pinkish flesh, net of wrinkles deepened by grazing light, milky eyes whose stark white captures the gaze. On top, Medsan runs authentic spray-lettering — outline-edged throw-ups, intended drips, miniature wildstyle, stars and little hearts — in a fluorescent palette of magenta, cyan, lime green and orange that violently contrasts with the skin’s monochrome. The handwritten signature appears in the bottom right.
The meaning of the mashup lies in this superposition. Gollum is the character possessed by an obsession he can no longer silence; graffiti is precisely the art of those who write their name everywhere to exist. By tattooing his litany on his own flesh, the work makes visible the inner monologue of a being split between Sméagol and Gollum, turning fixation into a mural scream. The black background isolates the subject like a tunnel night, leaving only the lettering to scream.
A piece at once spectacular and narrative, ideal for bringing a pop urban and cinematic touch to a contemporary interior of a collector who loves fantasy and street art.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true creative production space, the studio operates both as collective creation and as individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work influenced by cinema and realism. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created and followed within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
