Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan brings Son Goku, the Dragon Ball hero by Akira Toriyama, into Gustav Klimt's Golden Age. The Super Saiyan is captured in a full kamehameha stance, legs planted and hands clenched around a sphere of blue energy. The setting borrows from the Kiss and the Stoclet Frieze their gold mosaics, spirals, and inlays of stones, while the stylized clouds and lightning reference manga imagery. The cartouche メドサン, at the bottom right, signs the piece in the manner of a Japanese seal.
The treatment plays on the sheet of gold applied in irregular fragments, whose joints and crazing remain visible and catch the light. The character’s costume abandons the cartoon’s orange for a pavé of golds, scrolls, and cabochons greens and reds drawn directly from Viennese ornamental vocabulary, bordered by a sharp black line inherited from manga’s ligne claire. The composition is built like a target: concentric circles of gold, silver, and blue radiating from the sphere and guiding the eye to the center. The palette is limited to gold, emerald green, ruby red, and a deep ultramarine reserved for the energy, the only cool point in the whole piece.
The mashup speaks a simple and fair truth: the Super Saiyan is a golden icon, and Klimt indeed painted figures that gold transforms into idols. Treating a combat scene as a votive panel, the work shifts the character from entertainment to the sacred, where the manga already functioned as mythology for an entire generation. The blue sphere, the only non-ornamented zone, acts as the real subject: the suspended moment before the blast.
A sunlit, graphic piece, ideal for adding a touch that is both precious and pop to a contemporary collector’s interior who values the intersections between manga culture and grand decorative painting.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true center of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
