Our planet is not a soccer ball: the work addresses the theme of climate change, delivering a clear message: “Planet Earth is not a playground.” This contemporary sculpture by the artist couple Francioni Mastromarino depicts a soccer ball with the continents in relief, transformed into a globe with small cracks. A symbolic interpretation that fuses two images: the Earth, with the hexagons and pentagons characteristic of a soccer ball, all patinated with a rust-like effect thanks to iron powder embedded in the ceramic plaster.

The authors denounce the disdainful behavior toward climate agreements, precisely now, on the occasion of the World Cup hosted in part by the United States, highlighting the risk of treating climate change and the safeguarding of our only planet with superficiality as if it were a game. The materials used reflect a concrete commitment to the environment. Eco-sustainable mortars, inspired by bioarchitecture, are mixed with rice husk (lolla di riso), a by‑product of the rice mill that Francioni Mastromarino have long used in their works, and which, mixed with the mortars, ensures the durability of the piece. This choice not only reduces environmental impact but also integrates the work’s message: respect for the planet must start from even the smallest details.

The sculpture is the result of the synergy of two artists, Francioni and Mastromarino, a couple in art and love who have been working together for about 20 years in their studio in Pietrasanta, Tuscany.

The chosen materials minimize the pollutant percentage, as does the use of cardboard scraps as packing filler. The sculpture is carefully packaged in a very sturdy box and shipped with express courier. All our collectors are very satisfied with the sturdiness of our packaging.
