Antique mortar with handle – Solid cast brass – 19th Century – 2.5 kg
Description:
Magnificent antique mortar from the second half of the 19th century, made in solid cast brass and accompanied by its handle or pestle.
It is a particularly sturdy and heavy piece, with an approximate total weight of 2.5 kg, characteristic of old mortars made in metal castings.
It presents a traditional shape with an expanded edge, stable base and simple decorative turned elements. The handle, also made of cast brass, preserves its original shape.
The surface retains an attractive natural patina developed over time, as well as marks, small scratches, irregularities and signs of use typical of its age. Inside you can observe traces of oxidation and a greenish patina characteristic of copper alloys.
Era: second half of the 19th century.
