Description from the seller
Ropp Régence – vintage French briar pipe – approx. 1960s/1970s
An elegant vintage Ropp Régence, manufactured in France by one of the historic names in the French pipe industry. Ropp was founded in 1869 by Eugène-Léon Ropp and produced independently in France until 1991.
This piece is estimated to date from the 1960s/1970s and features a classic curved French model with a long, graceful stem. The warm red-brown finish allows the natural briar grain to come out particularly beautifully, with attractive birdseye and contrasting grain around the bowl.
The pipe has been carefully restored. The tobacco chamber is reamed and cleaned, the wood is sanded and refinished, after which the pipe was polished and given several layers of carnauba wax. The smoke channels have also been thoroughly cleaned.
The original vulcanite stem has been fully sanded, polished, and made hygienic again, and has regained its deep black gloss. At the mouthpiece, a prior damage has been carefully repaired. This repair remains visible upon close inspection and is therefore expressly noted and shown in the detail photos, but is barely noticeable when viewing the pipe normally. The original condenser is also present.
The stamps Ropp Régence and the characteristic oval Ropp logo on the stem have been retained. On the other side, model code E68 is stamped.
An attractive and very presentable vintage French pipe, with a particularly beautiful natural grain and warm color, which after restoration comes into its own once again.
Condition: very good estate condition, with normal signs of use and a noticeable but well-kept repair to the mouthpiece. See the detail photos for a full impression of the state.
The stand is for display only and is not included with the pipe.
The photos are part of the description, so view them carefully.
Carefully packed and shipped insured.
