Description from the seller
Olmedo Mezzoli (1908–1982) – “Young Archaeologist” – Surrealist composition
Painting on panel depicting a striking surreal composition: a young female face merges with a large decorated archaeological amphora, suspended in a fantastic and cosmic landscape.
The work presents some of the most characteristic elements of Olmedo Mezzoli's fantastical and surrealist production: the reference to classical antiquity and archaeology is combined with a dreamlike dimension, creating a figure suspended between reality and imagination.
Mezzoli was active in Milan and in 1969 he participated, together with Luigi Regianini, in the founding of the figurative surrealist Movement STIGE.
The work is signed “Mezzoli” in the bottom right.
On the back is present the artist's label “OLMEDO MEZZOLI – Painter” with a Milanese address, on which the manuscript title “Giovane Archeologa” is reported. This is a particularly interesting documentary element for identifying the work.
