Montblanc safety fountain pen No. 4 from the early 20th century with a 14 ct gold nib and ebonite barrel, 12 cm long and 4 cm in diameter, featuring a retractable nib and a gold-plated teardrop clip.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The Montblanc safety fountain pen No. 4 dates back to the 1920s and is an absolute highlight in the history of writing instruments. The faceted, octagonal design is today among the rare and highly sought-after collector's items of the Montblanc brand.

The safety fountain pen features a retractable nib. By turning the knob at the end of the barrel, the 14-carat gold nib is pushed forward out of the ink chamber. If the cap is screwed onto the closed pen, an internal mechanism seals the ink chamber leak-proof.

The size No. 4 determines the nib and barrel size and is considered a perfectly balanced men's size.

The barrel is traditionally made of ebonite, which ages over the decades into a charming vintage patina. Through a professional restoration by the Montblanc specialist MS Pens, the material was carefully polished to a high gloss. Great importance was placed on ensuring that the antique character of the over one-hundred-year-old pen remains visible. Individual elements, such as the outer sealing rings or the gold-plated clip, reflect this in detail.

This model is equipped with a historical, gold-plated teardrop clip, which bears the Montblanc lettering including the mountain silhouette.

The extension mechanism, the helix spiral, was cleaned and oiled. The inner cork seal was replaced with a new one and sealed with acid-free paraffin. The safety pin in the top of the cap was replaced with a new one. The gold nib and the gold-plated clip were gently polished.

Ultimately, it remains to be said that pictures can never entirely replace the perception of the pen with your own eyes. Especially the subtle color transition from hazelnut brown to dark green olive can hardly be captured photographically. The gold accents round off the overall impression in a particularly elegant way.

Since the pen comes from my private collection, this is a private sale. For shipping, particularly secure packaging is used, and the parcel will be sent with tracking and transport insurance up to 2,000 euros. The restoration receipt will be included. The fountain pen will be shipped in the described and pictured condition; furthermore, the sale takes place under the exclusion of any warranty.
