Egmond - Egmond Super Solid - - Electric guitar - Netherlands - 1958

Collector's item! Very rare piece! Made in the Netherlands at the Egmond brand: the Egmond Super Solid electric guitar. Late 1950s, the Egmond brand was one of the biggest brands selling electric guitars in the world. Egmond guitars were used by, for example, Brian May, the Tielman Brothers, Steve Lukather, and Jan Akkerman; it was their first electric guitars. Reason: they were reasonably priced, especially for beginner pop bands.

The Egmond Super Solid electric guitar has the famous 'Scout 2 pickups' (6/511). The guitar cable is permanently connected to the pickup (see photos). The guitar was built in the late 1950s and sold in the early 1960s at a guitar shop in the Netherlands that is now more than 100 years old (see sticker on the guitar). Asked about it, they told us that this guitar is still in quite original condition: the craquelé on this guitar is original (see photo from the Egmond book).
The only thing is, the neck-to-body joint has been repaired. Because of that, the guitar has a normal action and can be played. The neck has 20 frets. The electronics are okay; the pots are functioning well. The guitar has a serial number (see photo).

The Egmond Super Solid electric guitar was launched in the late 1950s. It was normally an ES113 with two pickups, but when it had three pickups (and a tremolo) it was called the Super Solid. The name makes you think it is a solid-body guitar, but it isn’t; it is a hollow-body guitar without any sound hole. That was done because it made the guitar lighter and more airy than a solid-body guitar.

This guitar is described and can be found in the Egmond book (pages 56/57 & 249/250). It tells us that this solid-model guitar was for many artists their very first guitar because it was not such an expensive one.
