The Philips VG-8020 is one of the most successful and best-selling MSX1 home computers in Europe. Introduced by Philips in 1984, this was the third model in their MSX line and the successor to the VG-8000 and VG-8010. The model was produced by the Japanese Kyocera (Yashica).
Unlike its predecessors, the VG-8020 featured a full, professional keyboard and an internal power supply. Although the case proudly stated "80 KB RAM," this actually consisted of 64 KB of working memory (RAM) and 16 KB of video memory (VRAM).
Key specifications;
Processor: Zilog Z80A clocked at 3.56 MHz. Memory: 64 KB RAM and 16 KB VRAM.
Operating System: MSX BASIC 1.0. Graphics chip: Texas Instruments TMS9929A (resolution of 256 x 192 pixels with 16 colors).
Sound Chip: General Instruments AY-3-8910 (3 channels).
Connections: Two cartridge slots, two joystick ports and a printer port.
