G&L S-500 from 2017, manufactured in Indonesia, tested and functional.
Description from the seller
Gorgeous G&L electric guitar from August 2017.
This guitar is part of the Tribute-series. Type S-500.
G&L Tribute Series S-500 from 2017 is an Indonesian-built electric guitar designed by Leo Fender as the ultimate evolution of the traditional Stratocaster. Although the guitar is assembled in Asia to keep the price low, this model uses exactly the same hardware and electronics as the more expensive American USA models. This makes it a very loved instrument due to its excellent price-performance ratio.
Wood species and Construction (2017)
In 2017, G&L used specific woods for the Tribute line, depending on the chosen finish:
Body: Usually made of Nato (a wood with tonal characteristics very similar to mahogany) for solid finishes like Sonic Blue and Vintage White. For transparent finishes (such as Tobacco Sunburst), swamp ash or a maple top was often used due to the attractive grain.
Neck: Made of Hard-Rock Maple with a comfortable Medium C profile and a flatter, modern 12-inch radius. This makes bending strings easier without frets choking.
Fingerboard: In 2017 G&L transitioned from rosewood to Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) or maple, partly due to stricter CITES regulations for rosewood at that time.
Distinctive Electronics and Elements
The big secret of the S-500 lies in the electronics, which come directly from the factory in Fullerton, California: MFD (Magnetic Field Design) Pickups: These Leo Fender-designed single-coils use a ceramic magnet with adjustable iron poles. They deliver considerably more output, less noise, and a wider frequency range (tighter mids, tighter lows) than traditional Strat pickups.
PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) System: Instead of two standard tone controls, this guitar has one master treble knob and one master bass knob. This lets you tighten the bass frequencies, which is ideal for high-gain sounds.
Expander Switch (Push-Pull): The guitar has a push-pull function on the treble knob. When you pull it, you can let the neck and bridge pickups sound together (like a Telecaster), or engage all three pickups at once. This yields 7 unique pickup combinations instead of the standard 5.
HardwareDual-Fulcrum Vibrato:
The Leo Fender-designed tremolo bridge rests on two screws and is calibrated so you can bend the tone both upward and downward. This bridge is known for its massive tuning stability and smooth operation.
Tuning machines: Closed gear with an accurate 18:1 ratio.
The guitar is carefully packed and insured for shipment via Track & Trace.
