Pelikan 500 fountain pen from circa 1950–1956, featuring a rolled-gold cap and matching gold-filled knob, with a 14K gold nib (585) in Extra-Fine (DEF), made in Germany from gilded materials and celluloid, length 14.5 cm and diameter 13.5 cm, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
This noble writing instrument is a rare vintage Pelikan 500 piston-filler fountain pen from the 1950s (circa 1950–1956).
It differs from the standard series (Pelikan 400) by its high-quality rolled-gold cap and the matching rolled-gold filling knob.
On the cap head sits the historic Pelikan logo with two chicks in a nest, which was used in this form until 1954/1956.
The installed 14-karat gold nib (585 gold) is a special collector’s highlight. It is a historical copying nib in extra-fine (DEF).
The nib features the early, smooth “Pelikan” script (before the introduction of the modern logo on the nib in December 1954). It is extremely rigid (“rock hard”) and, unlike later models, has only a single breather hole. DEF nibs are highly sought by collectors today due to their rarity.
