Description from the seller
PERRO EN EL SOFÁ is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a domestic interior with a strong decorative character in which a Dalmatian rests on an orange sofa, surrounded by flowers, furniture and large ornamental motifs. The scene combines intimacy, color and elegance in a balanced and highly expressive composition.
The organization of space is built around the sofa, which occupies a large part of the right half of the canvas and functions as the main visual resting area. The dog appears lying down naturally, integrated into the scene as a calm and familiar presence. On the left, a round table with a patterned cloth, a vase of flowers and a dark chair add depth and everyday life, while the large decorative panel in the background reinforces the interior’s sophisticated character. The color palette is dominated by warm oranges, intense blues, whites, blacks and golden yellows. Ernest García uses the contrast between the orange sofa and the blues of the surrounding environment to generate a chromatic vibration very close to Fauvism. The ornamental motifs on the wall and on the tablecloth also introduce a decorative dimension that recalls Henri Matisse’s emphasis on textiles, patterns and interiors as color settings.
The brushwork is visible, loose and direct, with simplified forms and strong outlines that reinforce the clarity of the composition. The dog is resolved with an effective synthesis of white, black and blue, while the furniture and flowers maintain a more gestural facture. This combination of figuration, ornament and color gives the work a contemporary language with strong visual presence. Beyond its domestic character, Perro en el sofá conveys a sense of calm, companionship and well-being. The animal appears fully integrated into the space, becoming an essential part of the intimate atmosphere of the interior. The result is a warm and sophisticated scene, where everyday life and decorative painting come together naturally.
“Perro en el sofá” will be especially appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, dogs in art, Dalmatians, colorful interiors, Fauvism, Henri Matisse, domestic scenes, modern decorative painting and Spanish contemporary art. Its chromatic intensity, its welcoming atmosphere and its balance between figure, furniture and ornament give it notable appeal for collection and auction.
