Description from the seller
HERMANAS is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work features two women in a austere and deeply chromatic interior, building a scene of closeness, silence, and family bond. The composition concentrates all attention on the figures, who appear physically and emotionally united within a small, almost theatrical space. The figure on the left, wearing a green blouse and black skirt, sits slightly behind and rests a hand near the other woman, reinforcing the sense of protection and kinship. The second figure, seated and dressed in burgundy tones, occupies the central visual axis. Their serene, contained faces, with introspective expressions, convey an atmosphere of stillness and a certain solemnity.
The chromatic palette is organized through large fields of red, green, black, and burgundy, with lighter tones on the faces and hands. Ernest García uses color in a synthetic and emotional way, not seeking strict naturalism. The intense red floor and the green background create a very powerful complementary contrast, while the dark masses of the clothing structure the composition and add gravity.
The brushwork is visible, direct and restrained, with simplified forms and firm contours. This formal economy brings the work closer to certain languages of modern figuration, fauvism, and naïf art, where expressiveness is built through posture, color, and the relationship between the figures more than through academic detail.
Hermanas maintains affinities with the tradition of the double portrait and with certain modern intimate painting. There are echoes of Henri Matisse in the use of large color surfaces and of artists such as Alice Neel or Paula Modersohn-Becker in the frontal approach, psychological sobriety, and the emphasis given to human presence, always understood as visual references rather than direct comparisons.
Beyond the portrait, the work speaks of companionship, memory, and bond. The closeness of the two figures, their restrained gestures, and the absence of anecdotal elements turn the scene into a universal image about the relationship between two people united by a shared history.
Hermanas will be especially attractive to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, female portraiture, double portraiture, intimate scenes, family relationships, fauvism, naïf art, modern figuration, expressive color, and Spanish contemporary art. Its compositional simplicity, emotional charge, and powerful chromatic balance give it notable appeal for collection and auction.
