Description from the seller
GRANDES AMIGAS is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work presents two women seated very close to each other, in an intimate scene of friendship, trust, and complicity. The closeness of their bodies and the tilt of their heads build a silent, affectionate image, centered on the bond between the two figures.
The composition is resolved through broad shapes and a frontal structure of great clarity. The two women occupy almost the entire pictorial space, with dark dresses that create a common visual mass and reinforce the sense of unity. The gesture of one of them leaning toward the other brings tenderness and balance, while the decorative background introduces rhythm without distracting from the main motif. The color palette is intense and contrasted. Ernest García combines bright reds, luminous yellows, greens, blues, and deep blacks, using color in an expressive and emotional way. The red background, speckled with small yellow dots, acts as a vibrant surface that envelops the figures and accentuates the sense of warmth. The light tones of the faces and hands stand out strongly against the large dark masses of clothing.
The brushstroke is visible, direct, and synthetic, with defined contours and a simplification of forms that brings the work closer to Fauvism and to a certain contemporary naïf figuration. The space does not seek realistic depth, but a flatter and more decorative construction, where color organizes the scene and concentrates attention on the emotional relationship of the protagonists. Grandes amigas maintains visual affinities with Henri Matisse in the use of large color surfaces, formal synthesis, and the importance of the decorative background. It can also be related to the modern tradition of the double female portrait and to an intimate figuration interested in human bonds, physical proximity, and the representation of daily life.
The atmosphere is serene, warm, and deeply affectionate. The work does not require explicit action: friendship is expressed through posture, closeness, supportive gesture, and shared silence. This narrative simplicity turns the scene into a universal image about trust and companionship.
Grandes amigas will be especially appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, female portraiture, friendship, double portrait, intimate scenes, Fauvism, Henri Matisse, naïf art, expressive colorism, and contemporary Spanish art. Its chromatic power and emotional charge give it notable interest for collection and auction.
