Description from the seller

Edvin Kristiansen / Kristiansen & Lande – Norwegian 925S Silver Blue Guilloché Enamel Pendant – c.1960

A refined Norwegian mid-century sterling silver pendant with vivid transparent cobalt-blue guilloché enamel, attributed through its hallmark to Edvin Kristiansen / Kristiansen & Lande of Oslo.

The pendant has a strong Scandinavian modernist circular design with an open centre. Beneath the translucent blue enamel is a finely worked radiating guilloché pattern, creating a distinctive sunburst effect and considerable depth as the light moves across the surface.

The pendant measures approximately 22 mm in diameter and is accompanied by a fine sterling silver chain.

Hallmarks and maker attribution:
The reverse of the pendant is clearly stamped “925S”, the traditional Norwegian sterling silver fineness designation for 925/1000 silver.

Beside the fineness mark is a distinctive reversed “K” maker’s punch.
This reversed K has been documented in specialist Norwegian silver research as the workshop mark associated with Edvin Kristiansen and the later firm Kristiansen & Lande of Oslo.
Research preserved in the 925-1000 silver hallmark archive records that Edvin Kristiansen established himself in Oslo in 1931. The workshop subsequently became Kristiansen & Knutsen and later Kristiansen & Lande, operating until 1972.
According to the same research, relatives of the Lande family confirmed that Kristiansen & Lande used the reversed K mark, while Edvin Kristiansen is believed to have used it from his earlier activity.

The identification is independently supported by Norwegian silver dealer Askeladdens Sølv, which catalogues jewellery bearing the reversed K as Kristiansen & Knutsen / Kristiansen & Lande. Askeladdens Sølv

The accompanying chain is separately marked “925” together with an additional manufacturer’s mark. It is therefore described as a sterling silver chain but is not automatically attributed to the Kristiansen workshop.

Design and technique:
The pendant combines several characteristic elements of Norwegian post-war jewellery design:
• Geometric circular form
• Open central section
• Radiating guilloché decoration
• Transparent cobalt-blue enamel
• Sterling silver borders
• Restrained Scandinavian modernist composition

The enamel remains translucent, allowing the engine-turned radial decoration beneath to remain clearly visible.

Condition:
Good original vintage condition.
The blue enamel presents very well and retains a strong, luminous colour. No major enamel loss is visible in the photographs.
The silver shows normal age-related surface wear, fine scratches, tarnish and patination, particularly on the reverse.
The chain also shows normal vintage wear.
No aggressive polishing or restoration has been carried out by the present owner.

Please study all photographs carefully, particularly the macro photographs of the hallmarks, enamel and reverse, as they form an integral part of the description.

Collector interest:
Norway developed an internationally recognised tradition of sterling silver and guilloché enamel jewellery during the 20th century. Pieces from documented workshops are particularly attractive to collectors when the original maker’s mark remains legible.

The compact 22 mm format also makes it highly wearable while retaining the strong visual effect of the radiant blue enamel.

The necklace will be individually protected and carefully packed to prevent damage to the enamel and silver surfaces.

Tracked and insured shipping will be used whenever available.
