Produced by Pilot Corporation — one of Japan's most respected writing instrument makers, founded in 1918 — the Elite line was part of Pilot's celebrated 1970s lineup of compact, gold-nibbed pens that helped define the "golden age" of Japanese fountain pen craftsmanship.

The pen features a slim, pocket-friendly black body, with the nib stamped "PILOT ELITE 18K," a hallmark of the brand's mid-century precision engineering. The pen has been confirmed to write properly. Please note that the pen will be shipped as the body only, without ink.

Pilot Corporation traces its roots to Namiki Manufacturing, a Japanese company headquartered in Kyobashi, Tokyo, that manufactures and sells writing instruments and stationery such as notebooks. The company's origins lie in a fountain-pen workshop founded in Tokyo in January 1918 by Ryosuke Namiki, a former instructor at the Tokyo Higher Merchant Marine School, who developed a crow-quill-style writing tool that worked without dipping in ink and eventually turned to fountain pen manufacturing after settling on iridium — used in ship compass needles — for a rust-resistant nib. The company changed its name to Pilot Fountain Pen Co. in 1938, and again to Pilot Corporation in 1989. Over the following century, Pilot became known for pioneering innovations such as the world's first cap-less fountain pen and the erasable "FriXion" ballpoint pen line, cementing its reputation as one of Japan's leading manufacturers of fine writing instruments.
