Description from the seller
HOTEL IN TEXAS is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a courtyard with warm, austere architecture, inspired by landscapes and buildings of the southern United States. Between terracotta and orange walls appear cacti, agaves, small shrubs and a large curved-piece seating furniture, constructing a silent and luminous scene that combines nature, design and architecture.
The composition is organized through a succession of planes that guide the eye toward a door open at the back. That opening introduces depth and reveals a strip of sky and exterior landscape, while the large cacti on the right visually balance the trees and pots on the left. The foreground seating element provides a bold, contemporary form that contrasts with the rusticity of the walls. The color palette is dominated by burnt oranges, terracottas, ochres, dry greens, turquoise blue and small violet nuances. Ernest García uses color with expressive freedom, intensifying the sense of heat and light. The grayish greens of the cacti and agaves function as a counterpoint to the warm walls, while the blue opening at the back introduces freshness and depth.
The brushwork is visible, loose and direct, especially on the walls, where variations of orange and earth create a vibrant surface. The vegetation is resolved with broad, gestural stains, while the architecture maintains a more geometric structure. This combination places the work in dialogue with Fauvism and with a contemporary tradition of architectural landscape where color plays a leading role.
HOTEL IN TEXAS shares visual affinities with Henri Matisse and André Derain for the emotional use of color, but also with a certain sensitivity of American Southwest modernism and desert architecture in places like Texas, New Mexico or Arizona. The result is not a literal description, but a pictorial interpretation of the dry, luminous and monumental atmosphere of these spaces.
The work conveys calm, warmth and a certain pleasant sense of isolation. The absence of human figures turns the courtyard into a silent refuge, while the plants and the open door suggest life and continuity beyond the depicted space.
HOTEL IN TEXAS will be especially attractive to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, Texan architecture, desert gardens, cacti, agaves, courtyards, Fauvism, Southwestern landscape, modern colorism and Spanish contemporary art. Its combination of architecture, vegetation, and warm atmosphere gives it a very distinctive visual identity and notable appeal for collection and auction.
