Max Kreijn, Palermo - Pallazo Steri, 1999, watercolour, original edition, 74 × 104 cm, hand-signed, architecture subject in an impressionist style.
Description from the seller
The composition consists of simplified forms and a use of vibrant color, resulting not so much in a realistic representation, but rather in a personal impression of the atmosphere and rhythm of the city. The work reflects Kreijn's fascination with travel and urban cultures.
After studying architecture for several years at the Technische Hogeschool Eindhoven, Kreyn continued his education in Monumental Art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Subsequently, he took lessons under the guidance of, among others, R.B. Kitaj and David Hockney at the Royal College of Art in London. After his studies, he first moved to the island of Ibiza and then to Assisi and Florence, where he devoted himself intensively to painting. For more than forty years the artist lived and worked in various countries, including Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Portugal, Thailand, Argentina, and Australia. This international background and broad artistic training are reflected in his work, in which architecture, atmosphere, and personal experience come together.
