Description from the seller
ONLY ONE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan transposes the universe of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, produced by Studio Ghibli in 2001, onto a blue-and-white porcelain plate restored with gold. Chihiro runs on the bathhouse roof, clutching the onigiri Haku gave her, while the white dragon hovers in the clouds above the roofs. The mashup brings modern Japanese animation into dialogue with the ceramic traditions of sometsuke and arita, and with kintsugi, the art of repairing breakage with lacquer and gold powder.
The drawing is treated with cobalt line under pure coverage, in the blue-and-white grammar: tight hatch marks for the building tiles, wavy lines for water and steam, stylized cloud scrolls inherited from ukiyo-e. The ivory background bears a fine craquelure, almost a kan-nyū network, from which stand out the broad golden veins of kintsugi that traverse the composition diagonally and outline the edge of the plate. The palette is deliberately tightened — cobalt, ivory, gold — and accepts only one deviation: the red of Chihiro’s ribbon and the plum of the rice, two focal points that draw the eye. The cartouche メドサン, drawn in katakana in a golden frame at the bottom of the piece, signs the work in the manner of a brand mark on the background of a kiln.
Kintsugi is not mere ornament here: it doubles the narrative of the film. Chihiro traverses a rupture — the spirit world, the loss of her name — and returns not repaired to its original state, but enhanced by what she has endured. The gold veining says exactly this: the breakage is not hidden; it becomes the most precious part of the object, and the painted bridge becomes the very passage that the crack materializes.
A rare piece and immediately legible, ideal for adding a touch of contemporary Japanese elegance to the interior of an animation amateur or a collector attached to works that tell a story.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a gathering of artists around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established like a true production space for art, the studio operates both as collective creation and as individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive exploration, blending abstract art, naïve art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
