Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD exists - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan brings Naruto Uzumaki, hero of Masashi Kishimoto's manga, into Gustav Klimt's golden age. The Konoha ninja leaps with kunai in hand across the rooftops of a temple, seized in full momentum like a figure on a byōbu, those Japanese folding screens with gold leaf. The mashup fuses two imaginaries that are separated by everything and united by a shared obsession: gold as the material of the sacred.
The background is a flat of bronzed gold, worked in squares of leaf whose joints can be guessed, in the manner of The Kiss and the Stoclet Frieze. On this surface, Medsan lays down the Klimtian ornament — spirals, scrolls, rosettes, sprinklings of concentric motifs — and applies it directly to the character's orange outfit, which ceases to be clothing and becomes a decorative mosaic. The black ink line of Japanese animation holds the whole together, while the ultramarine blue ribbons with arabesques, the green pines, the red chrysanthemums, and the stylized kumo clouds borrow from the Rinpa school and Kanō vocabulary. The white flash that bursts from the blade opens a doorway of light in the ornamental density, and the cartouche メドサン, in vermilion red in the lower right corner, signs the work like a hanko seal.
The gesture says something true: the ninja, a character destined for secrecy and erasure, is here gilded like a temple bodhisattva. Klimt sanctified his figures with Byzantine and Ravenna gold; Medsan applies the same treatment to an icon born in the pages of a Shōnen Jump. The diagonal roof line drives the movement to the left and prevents the ornament from immobilizing the hero.
A solar and sumptuous piece, ideal for bringing a touch of contemporary goldwork to the home of a collector sensitive to bridges between Viennese art, Japanese prints, and manga culture.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a genuine artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo follows a more instinctive path, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
