Description from the seller
BALCÓN is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a small urban balcony transformed into an intimate, vegetal refuge, where a wooden chair and a round table occupy the foreground while a lush mass of leaves extends outward. The scene blends architecture, furniture, and nature in a warm, vital composition with a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility.
The structure of the painting is organized by diagonals and verticals that add depth and movement. On the left, the façade with shutters and a balcony introduces a clear urban reference, while in the center the vegetation dominates the visual field with a loose, energetic brushstroke. The chair and table create a sense of human presence without needing to include figures: the space feels prepared for a pause, a conversation, or a moment of rest.
The chromatic palette is especially intense. Ernest García juxtaposes deep and fresh greens with luminous yellows, bright oranges, blues, and small pinkish accents. The wall on the right, treated in yellows and oranges, provides warm light that contrasts with the green density of the leaves, while the dark tones of the furniture and the railing structure the composition. The brushwork is visible, direct, and expressive, especially in the vegetation, where the leaves are built with blotches and quick strokes. The architecture and furniture are resolved with more graphic and simplified lines, creating a contrast between the organic and the geometric. This mode of working connects the work with Fauvism and with a contemporary figurative tradition that prioritizes color, rhythm, and atmosphere over meticulous representation.
BALCÓN maintains affinities with Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy in the taste for open interiors, terraces, vegetation, and chromatic exaltation, as well as with the tradition of modern Mediterranean painting. These references appear as visual echoes within a contemporary, fresh, and personal interpretation.
The work conveys a sense of summer, intimacy, and daily life. The balcony becomes an intermediate space between home and city, between the private and the exterior, while the vegetation envelops the scene and provides an almost suspended-garden dimension. The result is a luminous, spontaneous, and welcoming painting.
BALCÓN will be particularly appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, balconies and terraces, Mediterranean interiors, plants and urban gardens, Fauvism, Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, domestic architecture, and colorist painting. Its balance between nature, furniture, and urban life gives it notable appeal for collection and auction.
