The contemporary Swiss painter and graphic artist Annapia Antonini was born in 1942 in Lugano. From a young age she showed a strong interest in the visual arts, which led her to move to Paris in 1962. There she enrolled at the Académie Julian, a prestigious institution that has trained many well-known artists. Parallel to her painting studies, Antonini learned the art of etching from Johnny Friedlaender, a master of modern printmaking. In 1964 she exhibited for the first time in Switzerland, and over the years she participated in numerous major exhibitions across Europe as well as in Japan and the United States, solidifying her reputation in the international art scene. Landscapes, interiors, and still lifes take a central place in her work. Annapia Antonini draws inspiration from scenes of daily life, which she transposes through a realistic yet poetic approach. Her etchings, executed with meticulous precision, illuminate the most subtle and untouchable aspects of ordinary objects. In this way she succeeds in revealing the hidden beauty of simple things and inviting the viewer to a new perspective on their surroundings.
