Description from the seller
Retro bathroom: black-and-white checkerboard floor and skirting, pale yellow walls, avocado-green clawfoot tub, garnet toilet bowl and lid, leopard towel on its rack, Chinese-lacquered panel on the wall. Standing with her back to us, a brunette with a long braid wears a black vinyl sheath dress, thigh-high stockings with garters and patent leather heels; one hand rests on the tub, the other lies flat against the mirror where her reflection answers, palm to palm. Semiotically, the canvas is a frontal mise en abyme: the painting within the painting (the Chinese-lacquered panel), the body and its double, the checkerboard organizing the space into squares like a game board. The palette—glossy black, almond green, garnet, cream yellow—belongs to 1950s pin-up illustration, rendered in a smooth, polished finish.
Characteristics of the work:
Signature: Hand-signed by the artist on the front and back of the work.
Technique: Giclée print on canvas, using high-quality pigment inks for faithful reproduction of details and colors.
Edition: Limited to 20 copies, individually numbered.
Dimensions: 40 x 40 cm.
Framing: Delivered ready to frame, according to your preferences.
Authenticity: Comes with an artist-signed certificate of authenticity.
Shipping: Shipped from France, with secure packaging to ensure delivery in perfect condition.
About the artist:
LeYack (born 1972) is a contemporary artist whose work blends modern narrative with pictorial heritage. Drawing inspiration from photography and cinema, he distorts the codes of realism to inject palpable emotional tension. Each work tells a frozen moment, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the suggested story.
Keywords: figurative painting, retro bathroom, black-and-white checkerboard, vinyl dress, mirror, mise en abyme, clawfoot tub, pin-up imagery, 1950s, garters, Chinese-lacquered panel, oil on canvas, Le Yack, Atelier Joconde
