Description from the seller
Ravinet d'Enfert - Mid-Century Modernist Cigarette Cup & Ashtray - Vermeil Interior
An exceptional and highly collectible piece of Mid-Century Modern French tobacciana / desk art, designed and manufactured by the prestigious Parisian silversmith Ravinet d'Enfert.
This sleek, space-saving design perfectly encapsulates the transition into the geometric, avant-garde styles of late 1950s and 1960s French decorative arts.
The piece features a brilliant, mirror-polished architectural silhouette. The elevated upper cylinder is designed to hold unlit cigarettes vertically, while the semi-enclosed, sloping lower tier functions as a sheltered ashtray with a built-in resting ridge.
Notably, the interior of the cigarette cup features a stunning Vermeil (gold-gilded) finish. This traditional French technique was utilized by luxury makers both for its luxurious contrast and to prevent the silver from tarnishing against tobacco oils.
The underside is fully stamped with authentic French hallmarks:
The stylized manufacturer's stamp: RAVINET D'ENFERT / PARIS
The master silversmith symbol: A Clover (Trèfle) emblem
The official square responsibility punch mark, confirming its classification as high-grade French plated silver.
In very good vintage condition.
The silver-plated surface retains a beautiful, high-mirror luster with only minor surface micro-scratches/dents consistent with age and gentle handling. No significant pitting or dents. The goblet has a small dent on its top rim. The gold vermeil lining of the goblet is vibrant and clean.
Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they form an integral part of the condition description.
