August 18, 2026 (3rd painting in the series “Detachment & Autonomy”)

What is the first thing you notice? The red.

A warm, bright heat emerges within a structure dominated by white and black. It is not a color added to the surface, but the living part that exists below and that the detachment of a tile has finally made visible.

The black structure arises from the repetition of my visual language, which began to take shape in the distant 2019, on the small packaging blocks, while I was working at the bar. For this work I chose to return to the black pen, the instrument with which it all began. Compared to ink, the pen makes the mark smaller and denser. From far away the texture compresses to appear almost uniform; as you approach, it opens up and reveals my language, stroke by stroke. What on the surface may seem repetitive and closed thus reveals movement, complexity, and life.

The small square is the part that detaches. It retains the same mark as the structure from which it comes, but it claims an autonomous space. It represents my need to momentarily distance myself from the language I have built, without renouncing it, in order to observe it from a different perspective and reach the living matter it guards.

Detachment does not destroy the structure: it opens it. Hence the title Don’t Be Superficial: a invitation not to stop at what appears, but to look at what pulses beneath. Autonomy does not coincide with abandoning my style, but with the distance necessary to keep it alive.

BIO:

I am Pietro Fight, an Italian visual artist based in Milan. My research revolves around the writing of gesture: an abstract language made of signs, circles, fills and voids that repeat and transform from one work to another. Through my paintings I try to tell my way of seeing life and my artistic path, working on the relationship between density and breath, weight and space. Each work is unique and arises from a manual process of rhythm, repetition, and ever-changing variations.
