Description from the seller
Mehrdad Sadri. Tehran, (1944-2019)
2004
Oil on canvas.
Bottom right, left: “SADRI 04”. Oil on canvas. 130 x 100 cm
Mehrdad Sadri is among the influential representatives of contemporary Persian-European painting, whose work virtuously blends traditional Oriental mysticism with the expressive forms of Western modernity. His works are characterized by masterful light handling and a subtly, surreal refined aesthetics of veiling.
The play of unveiling and concealment is one of the central, recurring main motifs in Sadri’s multi-layered oeuvre.
A mature testament to the Viennese phase of the artist’s work, which impressively manifests the intimate dialogue between Eastern poetry and European painting tradition.
In excellent preserved condition; the edges of the outer sides are minimally abraded due to the work. In the upper right of the painting there is a slight superficial scratch. See photos.
Works of this masterful execution and impressive dimensions are predominantly in private collections and represent a rare opportunity on the international auction market.
