The Caol Ila distillery is located on the island of Islay and is known for its smoky whisky. The distillery was originally established in 1846, but the old distillery was demolished in the 1970s. A newer, larger version of Caol Ila was built on the same site. Today, Caol Ila is still the largest whisky producer on Islay. Thanks to the long aging process, the smoke is somewhat mellowed, making the whisky a beautiful example of a mature Islay whisky with plenty of complexity.
