"Under the Veil" is an atmospheric photographic work exploring vulnerability, identity, and the fragile boundary between concealment and self-revelation.
A human figure stands beneath a translucent veil, its folds transforming the body into a soft, almost dreamlike silhouette. Tattoos remain visible through the delicate material, creating a striking contrast between the intimacy of the body and the marks of personal identity. The veil simultaneously hides and reveals — suggesting protection, exposure, transformation, and the many layers through which we perceive ourselves and others.
The pale, ethereal palette and diffused light give the photograph a quiet, almost cinematic quality. The image feels suspended between reality and a dream, inviting the viewer to look beyond the physical appearance of the figure and consider what it means to be seen, concealed, and accepted.

Sviatlana Petushkova is an interdisciplinary visual artist. Master of Contemporary Art. Since 2022 she has been a member of the Lithuanian Union of Artists, where she actively develops her career, participates in competitions and exhibitions, and continues her creative work and civic engagement. Her artistic practice spans multiple media, including analog photography, printmaking, and spatial installations, exploring themes of migration, identity, acculturation, and the concept of home in a global context. Her art reflects a profound investigation into belonging and security, shaped by her experience as a political refugee and active participant in cultural dialogue.
