Homerus - De Odyssea van Homerus - 1823

Antique Dutch edition of Homer’s The Odyssey, translated from the Greek into Low Dutch verse, published by Mr. Jan van ’s Gravenweert. First part, issued in Amsterdam by Johannes van der Hey en Zoon in 1823 (MDCCCXXIII). The book contains 216 pages and features on the title page a handsome engraved image of Homer. It also includes, among other things, the preface and a list of subscribers to the work. An interesting early 19th-century Dutch edition of Homer, now well over 200 years old. The book is in its original old state with clear signs of use and aging. The plain historical binding is heavily worn and partly detached from the book block; old reinforcements/repairs are visible. The interior, given the age, is predominantly well preserved, with local discoloration, foxing, and spots. The irregular old paper edges are clearly visible.
