The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot shows an outstanding state of conservation, with an overall elegant appearance and well-preserved, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.

The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical ribbed finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface keeps its original lustre very well, showing only light micro signs of surface use, normal in a vintage piece, with no visible pallings of plating or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and properly aligned, maintaining its original tension.

The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks of use, typical of the passage of time, are observed, but no cracks, deformations, or structural damage. The model engravings “642” and the brand “M” on the rear part of the body remain sharp and perfectly legible.

The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with clearly defined outlines and no noticeable material loss.

The 14K gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” is visually in good condition, though the two-tone inlay has worn. The tines are properly aligned and the iridium tip shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.

The pen has been serviced and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.

Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically very attractive presence and discreet, age-appropriate signs of use.

To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality fountain-pen inks, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with warm water if not used for a time, dry properly before storage, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures.
