Description from the seller
"The Girl with the Blue Book" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work features a girl seated in a wide yellow armchair while holding a small blue book in her hands. The simplicity of the scene and the serenity of her expression build an intimate portrait tied to childhood, reading, and the calm of the domestic space.
The composition is dominated by the girl, placed in the foreground and surrounded by the enveloping form of the chair. The pink dress establishes a delicate contrast with the chair’s luminous yellow, while the intense blue of the book acts as a small chromatic focal point that immediately draws the eye. In the background, a door left ajar, green fragments of the exterior, and a small abstract painting visually broaden the room.
The palette combines yellows, pinks, greens, and blues with broad light surfaces that add brightness and lightness. The brushwork remains visible and spontaneous, especially in the dress, the furniture, and the architectural elements, while the face receives a more delicate treatment that concentrates attention on the protagonist’s expression.
The free use of color and the simplification of forms recall fauvism and, especially, the interior and portrait tradition of Henri Matisse. Ernest García uses color not only to describe the scene but to organize the composition and convey a sense of calm, warmth, and familiarity.
In "The Girl with the Blue Book", the everyday act of reading transforms into a contemplative scene. The girl’s direct gaze establishes a silent connection with the viewer, while the open book suggests a story interrupted for a few moments.
"The Girl with the Blue Book" will be particularly appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, children's portraits, scenes of reading, domestic interiors, fauvism, colorism, and compositions with intimate, luminous atmosphere.
