Portugal XL (No reserve) is an original acrylic painting by E. García, 100 × 70 cm, multicolour, hand-signed, from Spain, dated 2026, in the Fauvist style and depicting a marine landscape.
Description from the seller
"Portugal" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a luminous Mediterranean interior open directly toward the sea. Two large blue doors frame the horizon and guide the gaze toward a small boat in the distance, while lush vegetation transforms the room into a fresh and exuberant space.
The composition is organized through a marked depth: in the foreground, a blue round table gathers a teapot, a fruit bowl, and an open book accompanied by leaves, forming a small still life. Beyond, the warm floor leads to the open doors and finally to the intense blue of the ocean. This succession of planes creates an immediate sense of spaciousness and a connection between interior and landscape.
The palette is dominated by different shades of blue — turquoise, cobalt, and navy — contrasted with the ochres of the floor, the deep greens of the plants, and the orange and reddish accents of the flowers. The large plant on the right functions as a vertical counterpoint and brings dynamism to the scene.
The free brushwork, dark outlines, and simplification of forms bring the work closer to the language of fauvism. There are echoes of Henri Matisse, both in the prominence of the open window and in the relationship between interior, nature, and the maritime landscape, using color as a structural and emotional element.
In "Portugal", Ernest García evokes the luminosity of Atlantic and Mediterranean houses, building an image associated with summer, calm, and life by the sea. The open door and the small horizon sailboat also introduce a suggestive sense of travel and freedom.
"Portugal" will be especially attractive to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, colorful interiors, maritime landscapes, Portugal, fauvism, Mediterranean scenes, and compositions featuring blue and light.
