Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this vertical-format artwork, Medsan brings an entire coastline to the profile of a young woman, in the tradition of the double exposure portrait popularized by Dan Mountford and Antonio Mora. The wooded cliff crowns the skull, a lighthouse eyes the temple, and the sea runs down the throat until it breaks into a cascade. The pale sun and the flight of birds complete a romantic landscape inherited from Caspar David Friedrich.
The rendering plays on two opposing regimes. The face and the sky imitate a hazy, sfumato gradient of apricot, cream, and pearl gray where the grain of the canvas remains legible. The landscape, by contrast, imitates a knife-impasto effect: pines laid out in blades of deep green, rocks in dark scales, foam in thick white crests. A single turquoise accent, the color of the receding wave, recalls the green-blue of Hokusai's The Great Wave and concentrates all eyes, while the tiny red of the beacon serves as a chromatic culmination.
The mashup tells an inner landscape. The lighthouse, the image’s sole human construction, occupies the place of thought: it’s the reference point that holds when the swell rises. The disheveled hair blends with the mist, the throat becomes a cliff, and the water escaping from the chin figures what overflows and cannot be held back. Closed eyes and a head offered to the sun speak less of the storm than of the peace found in its midst.
A contemplative piece that is immediately legible from a distance, ideal for bringing a touch of oceanic calm and narrative depth to a minimalist interior, a bedroom, or a collector’s wall devoted to surreal portraits. What you receive is a unique giclée print: a pigment print on canvas mounted on a wooden frame, numbered 1/1 and hand-signed.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a group of artists united around living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a real art production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo is engaged in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, naive art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a distinct identity for each artist.
