With this vertical-format artwork, Medsan fits an entire landscape within the profile of a child, following the principle of double exposure inherited from film photography. Under the tousled hair, a ripe wheat field, a sunken path, and a solitary tree resting on the horizon line open up, while a flock of swallows escapes toward the clear sky. The quotation is explicit: the heavy wheat and the black birds of Van Gogh, from The Famine Field with Crows, brought here to the intimate scale of a face.

The rendering imitates a painting worked with a knife: short impasto on the ears of corn, edges of material on the plowed fields, glazes softened in the complexion and background. The palette remains restrained — olive, umber, warm ochre, deep blacks — on a pale blue sky that dissolves into white around the sun. A single red poppy concentrates all the saturation of the composition, a tiny counterpoint to the cloud of ochre particles that sweep the neck and shoulder toward the right. The texture of the canvas peeks through and gives the whole its studio-density.

The mashup speaks of memory: what the child looks at outside has already become his inner landscape. The swallows that depart, the shards detached from the body, and the poppy left planted tell the same movement — childhood disperses, something of it remains embedded in the field.
