Description from the seller
"Tomatoes" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work turns a simple still life of tomatoes into a composition of strong chromatic intensity, where everyday objects gain prominence through color, scale, and a marked simplification of forms.
In the center of the scene, a large striped ceramic bowl contains numerous ripe tomatoes still attached to their stems. The fruits are rendered with intense reds, oranges, and yellows, with clear highlights that emphasize their volume and freshness. The bowl, decorated with green, turquoise, and white stripes, introduces a second visual rhythm that contrasts with the organic shapes of the tomatoes.
The background is organized by large geometric panels of yellow, white, ochre, and blue, while the turquoise table and the deep ultramarine shadow reinforce the graphic character of the composition. The deliberately simple perspective and the visible brushwork maintain the painting’s materiality and distance the scene from a photographic representation.
The work connects with the modern still-life tradition and with Henri Matisse’s Fauvism, especially through the free use of color, decorative patterns, and the transformation of domestic objects into purely pictorial structures. The combination of stripes, color planes, and fruit also recalls the modern painting’s interest in integrating decoration and figuration within the same surface.
"Tomatoes" is a luminous, direct, and contemporary still life, especially appealing to collectors interested in still lifes, tomatoes, cooking, fruit and food, Fauvism, expressive color, figurative art, and contemporary painting.
