Description from the seller

Ivory Shishi netsuke on a ball – Edo Period (18th–19th centuries)

Exceptional Japanese ivory netsuke carved to depict a shishi (guardian lion) seated, showing its teeth and with its front paws protectively resting on a large ball.

Details of the piece:

Carving and expression: The shishi features an elaborate engraving in the thick mane and curled tail, with pupils inlaid in dark horn. The base features two himotoshi, the larger one generously excavated to house the knot of the cord.

Patina and condition: It has a fine, warm honey-toned patina. It is in good overall condition, with minor wear and fine aging cracks (himi) typical of its era.

Dimensions: Height 4.4 cm.

CITES Documentation: A copy of the CITES certificate originally provided by the auction house Galerie Zacke will be attached to the sale (the physical copy sent by them is provided, not the original certificate).

IMPORTANT NOTE: the CITES certificate is only valid for the holder listed in box 1.

Shipment can only be made to EU countries. The certificate is only valid for sale within EU countries.
