Description from the seller
The 2015 Ardbeg Perpetuum Bicentenary Committee Release was launched to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Ardbeg distillery (founded in 1815 by John McDougall). At the same time, the bottle marked the 15th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, the distillery's global fan community.
The story behind this iconic release and its unique details include the following elements:
- liquid history: Dr. Bill Lumsden, the legendary Director of Distilling & Whisky Creation, designed the whisky to reflect Ardbeg's "past, present, and future";
- composition: a vatted single malt was chosen, representing a careful blend of very young, middle-aged, and very old Ardbeg whiskies;
- cask selection: the spirit matured in a combination of silky ex-bourbon casks and spicy ex-sherry casks, resulting in a flavor profile rich in peat smoke, sea salt, dark chocolate, and vanilla;
- the name: the name Perpetuum (Latin for "perpetual") was chosen to symbolize the infinite cycle and the distillery's rich, unbroken future.
Bottled for Fèis Ìle 2015. As with other major festival releases, Ardbeg launched two versions during Fèis Ìle (the Islay whisky festival):
- the general release: bottled at 47.4%; large, standard production run; global distribution.
- Committee Release: bottled at 49.2%; limited to 12,000 bottles; exclusive to Ardbeg Committee members; available only directly from the distillery on Islay!
