WORK:

August 28, 2026
(5th painting of the series “Distacco & autonomia”)

The black dot is me. I find myself in the corner of the canvas, while a large mass of marks advances toward me and almost fills the space. It’s like a wave of my own art coming at me, tightening around me and almost assaulting me.

The corner recalls that of a ring. When a boxer is in the corner, he’s against the ropes: there’s no room left to attack and he can only defend himself. Before this mass, I feel the same: tight, constrained, and almost with no way out.

Yet I don’t really want this invasion to stop. It’s not something that comes from outside: it is born of me, speaks my language, and is part of what I am. On the one hand I fear it could take up all the space and become bigger than me; on the other hand I want it to grow, because I would like art to have an increasingly important and concrete place in my life.

“Invasion” tells exactly this contrast: feeling almost overwhelmed by something and, at the same time, deeply wanting it to happen.

This mark/language of mine began in 2019 on small order-blocks from the bar where I worked. In moments of boredom, when there were no customers, I drew on those sheets without a precise plan, letting the gesture repeat itself spontaneously. From that experience, years later, emerges “Distacco & autonomia,” an open inquiry through which I try to distance myself from external languages and influences, in order to build a truly personal artistic voice. It is a path that also concerns my life: the desire is to transform this language into a concrete form of autonomy and one day earn a living from my art.

BIO:

I am Pietro Fight, an Italian visual artist based in Milan. My research revolves around writing the gesture: an abstract language made of signs, circles, fills and empties that repeat and transform from one work to the next. Through my paintings I try to tell my way of seeing life and my artistic path, working on the relationship between density and breath, weight and space. Each work is unique and arises from a manual process of rhythm, repetition, and ever-changing variations.
