Justus Donker (1966) – Dutch Landscape – 2020 – Signed art print

A special art print of the Dutch landscape by the Dutch artist Justus Donker (1966), acquired directly from the artist.

A colorful and expressive portrayal of the Dutch landscape, with meadows, cows, water lilies and an impressive cloudscape. The work reveals Donker's recognizable love for the Dutch landscape.

This art print was obtained directly from Justus Donker in 2020. During this period, the artist frequently stayed with the current owner and worked from the owner's residence on his art. The work was purchased directly from him at the time.

Particularly notable is the personal signing on the back. The name “Justus” was applied by the artist himself with spray paint and a stencil.

The original, larger version of this landscape has also been offered on the art market as a painting by Justus Donker. The current lot, however, clearly concerns the art print and not the original painting.

Donker became known in the early nineties as a member of the group After Nature, of which he was a member from 1989 until its dissolution in 1995. Other members of the group were Peter Klashorst, Jurriaan van Hall, Bart Domburg and Ernst Voss. The first exhibition of After Nature with Donker took place in 1990 at the Seasons Galerie in The Hague. In the following years, the members of this group visited the United States several times to participate in exhibitions and painting performances.

Together with his painting brothers Gijs Donker (1964) and Aad Donker (1967-1998), who were also members of After Nature, he became known as one of the 'Donker brothers'. After the death of his brother Aad, Donker stopped painting for a number of years and moved to Wehe-den Hoorn in the province of Groningen. In 2009 he moved back to Leiden, where he grew up.
