Botan Yuki ぼたん雪(ぼたんゆき) | Takasawa Keiichi 高沢圭一(たかさわけいいち)

This is a work by Takasawa Keiichi depicting a woman in Japanese clothing standing in quietly falling snow. "Botan yuki" refers to large, moisture-laden snowflakes that fall on relatively warm days, such as in early spring. While featuring a classical motif, it is a modern work. He studied under the master Fujita Tsuguharu and acquired Western art, succeeding in solo exhibitions at galleries in Paris, France. Traditional line drawings like ukiyo-e are combined with modern composition.

Artist Profile:
1914 Born in Gunma Prefecture.
1939 Won the Asahi Shimbun Award at the Holy War Art Exhibition. Gained the acquaintance of Fujita Tsuguharu.
1974 Held the Paris exhibition "Flowers and Butterflies" at the Galerie Vendôme in Paris.
1975 Received an award at the Le Salon exhibition in France.
1976 Handled the cover illustrations for Fujin Koron.
1983 Passed away at the age of 69.
