AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Sadok Gmach (1940-2024)

The camel driver

Oil on board
Signed on the front in Arabic and on the back with a dedication
55 x 46 cm (work, standard 10 F size)
74 x 64 cm

Modern work with pronounced geometries and vivid colors that portrays stylized figures in a dreamlike landscape clearly inspired by North Africa. The composition is divided into panels by bold yellow lines that separate the narrative elements: on the right, figures in traditional dress in warm reddish-brown and orange tones stand out against blue and green backgrounds; on the left, a evocative desert landscape populated by camels and sinuous ochre-colored dunes develops under a deep sky. The aesthetic evokes Maghrebi contemporary art, characterized by an elegant formal synthesis and flat planes of color. On the back of the board there is the title of the work and the artist’s affectionate handwritten dedication, dated Geneva, June 29, 1968.

The frame, if visible in the photo, is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value and, due to its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the artwork. They can be removed upon request at no extra cost. Please let me know if you prefer the artwork to be shipped without it; otherwise I cannot take responsibility.

Notes on shipping and customs

The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the normal customs clearance procedures.

In case of return of the package for an incorrect address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer must pay for a second shipment and cover the return costs.

Also remember that, since Switzerland is outside the European Union customs area, import taxes, local VAT, and customs duties are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be collected by the authorities in your country upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the possibility, in-person pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate transport costs and ensure the maximum safety of the work.

If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during the journey.
