Elsje van Beek (1938) - Hoop en mededogen

This is the 13/15 silkscreen of one of Elsje van Beek's drawings. The silkscreen is in excellent condition and owned by the now 87-year-old artist herself. It is not framed. Elsje van Beek (then also Kraamwinkel) was part of the vanguard of the sexual revolution in the 1960s–70s. She was one of the founders of the Erotic Syndicate. She made sharp drawings that made visible the inequality between men and women. Her drawings are a denunciation of sexual excesses. She herself calls it anti-sex. She enjoyed some fame and was invited to talk about her works on radio and TV. In 1969 a number of her works were selected by Eberhard and Phyllis Kronhausen for the Second International Exhibition of Erotic Art. In 1988 Emile Fallaux created a three-part documentary for the VPRO. Erotic Panoramas about the changing sexual mores in the Netherlands after the revolution. In the third part, Elsje van Beek and her ex-husband Ruud Kraamwinkel are central. For the first time in years she has allowed herself to be interviewed for the NPO program Door Vrouwenogen. Elsje appears in the second episode and speaks honestly about her life and her art.
