Elsje van Beek (1938) - Vast in eigen vel

From the heart of the social revolution in Amsterdam in the 1960s, toward freedom on all fronts, Elsje processes her observations and her own pain into sharp drawings. Cramped by the morality of the times, driven by desire, the human would like to be someone else for a change. Unfortunately we are stuck in our own skin. A wonderful image of the spirit of the age; the original was allowed to accompany the Second World Exhibition Erotic Art of the American couple Kronhausen, of all Dutch submissions (besides 5 works by Elsje, works by Karel Appel, Rembrandt and Melle van Oldeboerrigter were included) they found Elsje's to be the finest. In the second episode of the Andere Tijden series “door Vrouwenogen”(2026) Elsje, at the age of 88, tells her story.
