Description from the seller
Antoine Stevens (1987)
Mina
2025
Original unique work created with acrylic and spray on canvas.
Born in 1987 in the north of France, Antoine Stevens discovered graffiti during his adolescence before developing a studio painting practice from 2005. His artistic universe sits at the crossroads of street art and contemporary figurative portraiture. By pairing expressive painting with spray interventions, drips, and a subtle treatment of material, he composes works where the emotional power of the portrait meets the energy of urban art. His work is today represented in several galleries in France and internationally.
With Mina, Antoine Stevens explores a freer and more instinctive approach to portraiture. The female face, treated in a very close-up, emerges from an explosion of colors where deep reds, turquoise blues, pinks, and blacks overlap in a vibrant composition. Projections, transparencies, and textural effects confer on the work a striking energy while maintaining remarkable finesse in the treatment of the gaze and expressions.
Between abstraction and figuration, Mina testifies to Antoine Stevens’ ability to make emotion, spontaneity, and technical mastery dialogue. The contrast between the apparent violence of the painting gesture and the softness of the face creates a visual tension especially captivating, making this work a major piece of his recent production.
