• Description of the work
Created in 2022, the diptych Bloodline belongs to the initial phase of the study that will lead Diego Carchesio to the birth of the artistic research DIETRO LA TELA. Although it predates the gesture of painting on the back of the canvas, the work anticipates its fundamental principles through an investigation of light, matter, and the spatial continuity of the visual slit.
The work explores the concept of fracture and rebirth, evoking a kind of biological and spiritual autotomy: a necessary separation to generate a new form of life and light. This tension is visually manifested in the physical division of the diptych, where the empty space between the two canvases becomes an integral part of the narrative. The composition develops horizontally across a line of fragments in gold leaf that crosses and unites the two modules, emerging powerfully from a deep, vibrant red background.
This golden scar creates a strong dynamic contrast between the separation of supports and the luminous continuity of matter. Natural light, reflecting off the gold and the strata of red, constantly transforms the viewer's perception of the work depending on the viewing angle, making the observer an active participant in the visual experience.
