Description from the seller
SANTO TERRA (1980) - The Storm Passes - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media techniques, acrylic painting • digital painting • Hand-signed • 2026
On a background of scratched and aging sand, an entire alphabet of signs takes shape: a black palm tree, a red sun, a wide-open eye, a jet-black bull and stag, an ivory idol head, a golden jug, a circle of children, a sailboat ascending a blue river where two fish swim. Words surge forth — VIAJE, THE STORM PASSES — amid crosses, numerals and a votive red hand. Rough painting, earthy impasto, the spirit of a votive offering and of a rock-face panel. A naïve and joyful cosmogony where each symbol narrates the journey, the crossing, the hope after the rain. Solar outsider art and Mediterranean — the fervor of origins, transfigured.
Mixed medium: acrylic painting on print with pigmented ink, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for color depth and lasting protection of the work.
Support: premium stretched canvas on wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed SANTO TERRA • Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde • certificate of authenticity provided.
SANTO TERRA is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name SANTO TERRA, the Studio reconnects with the energy of outsider art and free figuration: spontaneous black linework, quirky and frontal figures, votive signs and pictograms, vivid flat colors, the spirit of a votive offering and rock-wall writing.
SANTO TERRA brings together joyful and raw figures — creatures, musicians, totemic animals, alphabets of symbols — captured in the momentum of free and jubilant painting. The throughline: a dialogue between the spirit of Mediterranean outsider art and a contemporary pop gaze, where the painterly matter enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
