About the work:

This dreamlike composition evokes Andrea Palladio's Villa Rotonda, a major reference in Renaissance architecture, and reinvents it atop a twisted vegetal column—as if the Palladian masterpiece had germinated, organically, from the depths of a landscape.

A spiral path encircles this strange tower and leads, in an ascendant movement, a solitary silhouette—a pilgrim or a soul in search, tiny.

The sky splits into two opposing atmospheres: on the left, a deep blue pierced by a swarm of black birds escaping the villa in a living whirlwind; on the right, a golden, almost solar glow, enveloping the scene in mystical warmth. This chromatic duality creates a tension between shadow and light, flight and grounding, dream and awakening.

In the foreground, giant flowers with striped petals — between dandelions and fantastical anemones — emerge from a rocky, cottony ground, blurring scale and intensifying the work's phantasmagoric atmosphere.

About the artist:

Historian by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before passing the Agrégation of Fine Arts (3rd rank). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach.
Her background today nourishes a personal body of work where painting mastery dialogues with a deep culture of images and art history. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.

Through each of her works, Emmanuelle Pellet seeks to create an intimate encounter with the viewer: an emotion that endures long after the first glance.
