Title: Alfred Kubin – “Elves' Daughters” – Mounted under Passepartout

Offered is a striking graphic work by Alfred Kubin (1877–1959) titled “Elves' Daughters.” The work illustrates the mystic-demonic motif from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's well-known ballad The Erlking in the unmistakable, finely detailed line work of the Austrian Symbolist and Expressionist.
The sheet shows the ghostly figures of the elves or Erlking's daughters, wind-blown through a dark, densely vegetated landscape with a pond and wild animals. In the lower edge of the image is the printed title engraving “Erlkönigs Töchter.”
The artwork is masterfully mounted under a diagonal-cut Passepartout.
