This striking lithograph by Swedish artist Lars Tunebo depicts a blue chimpanzee performing an acrobatic act high above the water, with the New York skyline in the background. The unusual combination of an animal, urban architecture and a playful situation creates a humorous and surreal atmosphere. The strong blue tones and dramatic composition give the work a distinctive visual impact.
Lars Tunebo (born 1962) is a Swedish artist born in Lysekil who lives and works in Gothenburg. He is self-taught and has worked across a wide range of media, including painting, glass, bronze, mosaic and photography/mixed media.
Tunebo is particularly known for placing animals in unexpected and humorous situations, often against recognisable urban environments. His artistic language is characterised by strong colours, sharp contrasts, imagination and a playful sense of humour. His animal images can combine photography, digital manipulation and hand-finished colour effects to create scenes that would not exist in reality.
