Description from the seller
"South of Greece" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a tranquil Mediterranean corner open to the sea, where a small blue table, a book, and a wicker basket compose an intimate scene of rest and contemplation.
The composition is dominated by the intense blue of the Mediterranean, extending to a clean, luminous horizon. In the foreground, an aged wooden table supports an open book, accompanied by a small seat covered with a patterned cloth and a handcrafted basket. These everyday objects bring warmth and suggest a silent pause in front of the landscape.
The large branches that cross the upper part form a natural canopy of deep greens and frame the view toward the water. The combination of electric blues, olive greens, warm whites, earth tones, and small touches of black creates a fresh, deeply Mediterranean palette.
The brushwork is visible, direct and expressive, especially in the foliage, the surface of the sea, and the foreground objects. The simplified treatment of forms and the free use of color bring the work closer to a contemporary figuration with echoes of Fauvism.
"South of Greece" conveys serenity, summer, and a sense of frozen time. A luminous and evocative work that celebrates the beauty of small moments by the sea and is especially appealing to collectors of Mediterranean landscapes, contemporary figurative painting, and coastal-inspired interiors.
